Oak Ridge High School Art Department
Jessica McKinney
I was born and raised in San Diego California. I moved to Oklahoma City two years after I graduated high school. While in Oklahoma I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. I moved to Houston with my husband and 2 dogs in 2003. I started teaching in 2004-2005. I taught one year at Claughton Middle school, 11 at Carl Wunsche Career and Technology Academy in Spring ISD, and I am currently in my second year with Oak Ridge High School. In May of 2017 I graduated from the University of Florida with a Master of Fine Arts in Art Education. I am also the mother of three amazing children; Logan, Katelynn and Kendall. Art has always been a part of my life. As a child I was surrounded by a family of artists. I believe art is a discipline that teaches much more than how to make something pretty. Art teaches patience, perseverance, communication, cultural appreciation and creative thinking and allows a student to practice what they are learning.
